lighthouse on Udo

Last holiday, in February, Jin and I rented a car (because it was too cold to bike) and took a two day trip around the island. We stayed overnight in the Jungmoon area in a coastal minbok and then drove east the next day. We ended up going out to Udo island for lunch and a look around. It was so quiet out there, not many people, even the jeju diving women were taking a break. The sky was beautifully blue and clear, but the air chilly. This is Jin in front of a lighthouse before lunch, she was cold and hungry...

good friends, warm fire

The fire lasted 12 hours, from noon to midnight. Daniel Julian, our fire-master, poet laureate, and otherwise "resident yard-boy", is on the right taking a break from the action. Josh's girlfriend, Myeong-sook, is tending the fire meanwhile. The fire turned out to be a great way to purge the yard of all unwanted leaves and trash. Our neighbor even threw in a old book case! This shot was taken early on... many more came and we had a good 'ol time celebrating Isaac's birthday. Happy Birthday man!

...discipline...

Mira's dog, 길연, learned the hard way today and we found out just what she's made of. After getting a bit excited and peeing in our foyer, her mommy, Mira, scolded her and then made her to stand with her front paws on the front door. Cute, i thought, but it won't last. But it did!! She stayed there obediently, serving her time. Even when it seemed uncomfortable for her she struggled to stay up and held it for at least 3 minutes. Now, that's discipline! Finally, mommy gave-in and she jumped up on her lap, all was good again. "Wished my students behaved that well," said Josh....don't we all?!

똥 침!!!

똥침!!! Ddong-chim, for those of you who are hangul illiterate. and, poop-needle for those of you who don't know a little Korean. Actually this is an act commonly inflicted upon others, mostly between students....but even teachers are victims sometimes. Its totally playful, and can even seem endearing, but uncomfortable nonetheless...just a poke in the good 'ol poop-shoot.

This is Jin, my girlfriend, giving her best to the statue we saw at the Health and Sex Museum here in Jeju. Nice buns, eh?

Frictionless on Yeongsil

...and this is yours truly...i had to post this for my mom's sake...

Sometime last month on a Tuesday afternoon, Elliot and I got the urge to get high...we picked the Yeongsil course. It was a crisp, sunny day and the view was great, although the tread was lacking due to the fresh snow. We were the only foreigners on the trail and also the only hikers without cramp-ons (strap on spikes). It seemed to be a disadvantage until we realized the beauty of no friction, on the way down. It took an hour and a half up, and 45 down, we slid...sorry i don't have a good picture of that.

Oh, and with indiana dan's help i figured out how to change the blog editor language to English, much easier.

Ok, so this is take two...i'm still trying to get the hang of this blogging stuff--maybe i shouldn't have picked a Korean blogsite for my first try. anyways...

This is Elliot, who came, saw, and conquered. He left a couple of weeks ago, we're all missing him already, the hikes, rides, great music, and the 3-2-1 game....get's 'em everytime. Hope to see you back here again soon bro!
